The Codex & The Helix: Book Arts Exploring Evolution ( Public )
Date and Time: 2009-02-12 19:00:00

Event Website: http://www.gonzaga.edu/Academics/Libraries/Foley-Library/Events/

Activities:
Foley Center Library at Gonzaga University presents a small collection of original juried artist's books that faithfully portray the science behind evolution and/or the political and social history of evolutionary theory in a book arts form. Artists' books are a genre of art especially well-suited to a library environment. These are not just books that *contain* art--these books *are* the art.

The six winning entries were selected by a diverse panel of judges (Gonzaga Faculty in the Departments of Art, Biology, English, Philosophy, and Library Special Collections), and are displayed in the exhibition "The Codex & The Helix: Book Arts Exploring Evolution." The exhibition is located in the Cowles Rare Book Room at Foley Center Library, and will run from January 9 to February 27, 2009.

We will also gather to celebrate the winning artist's books and the legacy of Darwin on February 12, 2009 at 7pm in the Cowles Rare Book Room. All are welcome!
